Blog 2: Alternatives to NHHIP (I45 Reroute in Houston)
TxDOT has proposed the North Houston Highway Improvement Project (NHHIP) in the effort to alleviate traffic congestion. Details for TxDOT's plan are available from the video entitled North Houston Highway Improvement Project. This blog presents two alternative routes for Segments 1 and 2,
and click here to see detailed comparison.
The current plan of Segment 3 has two flaws: 1) going below the grade with I69 at George R Brown Center jeperdizes the evacuation route to the north for millions of people; 2) sharp turns merging onto or departuring from I69 could become Houston's deadman's curve. A better alternative would be a double-decker design within the existing right of way where the upper level for Downtown traffic and the lower level (below the grade) for through traffic during normal weather. During extreme weather, the upper level is used for evacuation and the lower level for water detention and conveyance(December 2019).
Blog 3: Custom Built House with Multi-use Infrastructure
Liuxon designed a house and supervised its construction. The features of the house include: 1) A multi-use channel including drainage, sidewalk, erosion control and host of utility lines; 2) Reinforced concrete boxes as septic tank and retaining wall; 3) Rain water collection and re-use system. The house is designed to resist natural diaster such as flooding, hurricane wind and earthquake (Sept. 9, 2024).
